Switching operating systems

I have switched operating systems just today and I am currently making this post on ubuntu running from an old usb my father found. The reason why I have chosen to switch operating systems is because of Windows 10 ending support later this year and I can’t upgrade to Windows 11 due to how old my laptop’s processor chip is. What should I do next?

amp do you have advice for someone who’s system crashed and kernel panicked during a os insta- i mean, someone who’s os don’t work anymore?

Anonymised_user_6 use a live usb to boot another OS, reinstall your bootloader, kernel, and systemd by chrooting
if you were using windows then you should’ve got a live usb and installed gnu/linux on day one (i love roasting windows users)

else install a new OS like Debian ARM on your pi

it’s finally happening… after 3 months of driver space issues
I’m installing ubuntu onto my laptop
windows you’ve served me well (although not so much in the past 1 or 2 years)

unconstructable13 turns out the installation didn’t go to plan
something during the installation must’ve crashed and I ended up having to wait two hours stuck on the “installing Ubuntu” screen that doesn’t do anything
Also, I can’t seem to boot into the distro. I’ve tried searching up ways to access the Windows boot manager but I just can’t. I remember looking into that console thing on the bottom right of the installation screen and it had an entry that said something along the lines of “The Windows boot manager had to be removed”, so I guess it has something to do with why I can’t even boot into it in the first place? What? Am I doing something wrong or just unlucky enough to encounter this problem (I’m really unlucky in life so this shouldn’t come as a surprise to me)

sad to say this but you screwed yourself. First, I need some info before I can help.
Did you partiton the drive for ubuntu?
did you allocate enough space if you did?

Anonymised_user_6 I installed Ubuntu onto a separate C drive partition that is about 30GB big

unconstructable13 you’re not meant to put ubuntu on a C drive, you’re meant to make an entirely different partition during setup
ubuntu is meant to be on an ext4 drive, not a lettered NTFS drive
reinstall windows (if you still intend to dualboot), then try installing ubuntu again without partitioning within windows. you will see a screen that looks roughly like this

amp I forgot to mention that I can still boot into windows completely fine, I’ve chosen to install ubuntu alongside the boot manager

Bump bcuz I really want Linux installed before 2026
What do I do now? How do I start the installation over? Do I delete the partition altogether or just buy a new computer with Linux already installed at this point bcuz from the replies I might have irreversibly broken my computer

amp how do I find a windows 10 iso though

amp I have trouble understanding this because I am not as good with Linux as you are. The only drives that I have are the E: and C: drives that all use NTFS I believe. I don’t have any drives that use ext4 Where should the entirely different partition be during setup?
Also I’ve completely factory reset my windows installation not so long ago and I don’t really want to completely reinstall windows for the third time and I still plan on dualbooting so are there any alternatives?
