Wiki block appeals thing

50_scratch_tabs

When the bad actor was spamming yesterday, they posted spam all over. Most of it was harmless due to approval, except:

They posted in the Wiki block appeals forum, and due to that glitch, the title of their post appeared on the home page. The title of that post happened to be “F*** you”. Not good.

So, we should require approval for wiki block appeals (as well as giving wiki admins permission to approve in that that). This will solve problems.

Thoughts?

Fixed. We should probably find a more secure method of appealing anyways

I’ve also made it so only logged-in users can see the block appeals tag

Should we use google forms? I know that’s not allowed on scratch but we still need some private appealing method. Not many people are going to dig into all of our MediaWiki messages just to get a link to a form for blocked users.
Plus when the ampmod website is up and running we could run an appeal service there.

amp G Forms is just getting odd now. And very buggy for no reason. Like, for example, “Enter your name: [usrs name here] Oh, sorry, must be A number.”

Like huh???

I can create a form in MS Office, as my tablet has it installed.

Also Google forms recently added “contact form owner” which doesn’t share the owner’s email thankfully but allows users to privately send messages…

Another thing is that Special:BlockList exists on the Wiki so that’s a thing. Someone please look into OSSBlocks on the Scratch Wiki’s GitHub page.

Dare I ask: should we go full Wikipedia and put appeals on talk pages, as well as not bothering to hide blocks?

I know that inspect element exists, but we could just CSS hide the Special:BlockList page for users not in admin group. While someone could still inspect element and see the blocked users, OSBlocks isn’t on Miraheze as of now so we need some sort of band-aid until it gets added.

When we have servers to host ampmod-web we might host the AmpMod Wiki as well so that we can add our own extensions such as those taken from the Wiki. We could potentially even link ampmod-web accounts to the Wiki in a fashion similar to the Scratch Wiki (even though we might keep registration open because our wiki is more lenient than Scratch’s.) I might write the frontend code in ampmod-web for that soon.

heck nah

Full support, when (if 😞) we get a server we should self host forums and wiki as well as main. But who’s gonna give us a server? I assume our budget remains at 0?

There’s so much we could do if we get a server, but I don’t see it happening anytime soon.
